It replaces the plastic barrels from the box with thin, straight resin castings. The part is meant for more advanced modelers with experience of resin.
The leading edges of the wings with the gun muzzles are obvious at first glance on the Hellcat, and plastic barrels tend to be thick, tapered or slightly bent. The resin castings are straight, with a fine muzzle and a faithful diameter, so the armament looks sharp and precise. The late form matches a different arrangement of the muzzles; choose it according to your subject.
