The F/A-18 Hornet is an American carrier-borne multipurpose aircraft. This set is aimed at the single-seat version in the modernized standard, which carries a pair of plus signs in its designation. The cockpit is clearly seen on a model in 1:48 scale, especially when you build a machine with the canopy slid back.
Colored features of the cockpit interior, printed and given raised relief, so that the instrument panels and the side panels have real depth and not merely a drawing. The features are printed on carrier decal paper, from which they slide into place after a brief soak.
A feature is cut from the sheet, soaked for about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water and slid off the backing paper into place. Use neither decal softener nor setting solution, as they would attack the printed resin. Finish the cockpit first, paint it and go over it with gloss varnish: the features have no adhesive layer of their own and hold precisely on that. Carry a feature with tweezers, check its position and only then press it down; on shaped surfaces work from the middle out to the edges with a soft cotton bud. A blunt wooden point will help press a feature into recesses, and in broken-up places a drop of super glue will. The finished interior can be evened out with matte varnish, but lay it on in a light coat.
The set is for modelers who want a convincing cockpit without the laborious picking out of small instruments with a brush. The work is quick, but it calls for tweezers, calm and good light.
