1:48 F/A-18F Super Hornet — masks for surface detail is an accessory in kabuki paper for spraying details of the airframe instead of using decals. It is not a set for the cockpit glazing.
Responsibility details are not available.
Pre-cut kabuki masks focused on the surface detail of the airframe of a model of the F/A-18F in 1:48 scale. This is neither a kit nor masks for the cockpit glazing — those are made separately, as is the set for the inner side of the canopy. Which areas this set covers is stated on the box and in the instructions in the package.
On modern combat aircraft a number of prominent areas can be handled in two ways: with a decal, or by spraying through a mask. A sprayed area has two advantages over a decal — there is no glossy edge of carrier film, which is called silvering, and the paint follows the engraving and the rivets underneath, so it does not look like a sticker. Typically the dark anti-glare panel ahead of the cockpit or the non-slip areas on the spine are handled this way.
The surface beneath has to be smooth and perfectly dry, otherwise paint will seep under the edge of the mask. Spray several very thin coats — a heavy coat creates a ridge at the edge of the mask, which stays as a visible step once it is removed. With dark shades on a light surface it pays to spray a thin coat of the base color first, so that any seepage is not high in contrast. Take the mask off while the paint is not yet fully cured, as otherwise you risk tearing the edge away.
The set holds masking material only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
