1:48 Fairey Fulmar Mk.II seatbelts STEEL are photo-etched seat belts for the cockpit of the British carrier fighter, in a steel version.
Responsibility details are not available.
A standalone photo-etched set of seat belts for a 1:48 model of the British carrier fighter. The STEEL designation in the name refers to the steel version of the photo-etching, which differs from ordinary brass in the way it is handled: steel is stiffer and holds a bend more firmly.
The seat belts are the most visible thing in the cockpit and yet injection-molded plastic almost never manages them. Either they are missing altogether, or they are suggested as relief on the seat, which looks flat once painted. Photo-etched metal lets you drape the belts loosely over the edge of the seat and over the frame, so the cockpit immediately looks lived in. On the two-seat Fulmar this difference tells twice over, because the glazing gives a view into both compartments.
Shape the belt first and only then glue it. A short pass with a round tool or the blunt side of a blade gives a natural sag; straight belts look like sheet metal rather than fabric. Seat the metal parts with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue and let them dry without pressure. If you plan to airbrush the cockpit, fit the belts only after the interior has been sprayed, so that they stand out against the background. The buckles and fittings can be brought out with a dark shade applied by drybrushing, which keeps the fine relief of the belt from disappearing even under the glazing.
