The New Ware 1:32 masking set for the national insignia of the Messerschmitt Me 262A-1 and A-2 makes it possible to spray the insignia straight on in paint instead of applying decals.

This set is not a kit or a decal. It contains cut masking templates of kabuki paper intended for spraying the national insignia onto the fuselage and wings. The modeler does not apply the insignia but sprays them step by step through the mask, so that they are made up of the same paint as the rest of the finish. The set is listed for the fighter version A-1 as well as for the fighter-bomber version A-2 in the large 1:32 scale.
A decal lies on the surface and brings a transparent carrier film with it. On a matte finish the film gives itself away as a glossy outline, a phenomenon called silvering, and on scribed panel lines a decal can crack. A sprayed marking has no film, follows the surface of the model including rivets and lines and behaves under weathering exactly like the paint around it. In a large scale, where the insignia are sizable, the difference is especially noticeable.
Let the base coat cure properly, so that the mask does not stick to a soft finish. Apply the template, press the edges down carefully and spray thinly, perpendicularly and at a lower pressure; the paint will then not bleed under the edge. With multicolor insignia you spray step by step in layers, always only once the previous color has dried. Take the mask off once the paint has set, and do so slowly, at an acute angle. Any small bleed can be corrected with the point of a brush once dry.
The set serves for spraying the insignia; it does not itself contain paints, glue or a kit. The templates are cut to the shape of a particular model, so check the match with your kit.
