A set of masking templates in 1:48 scale for the FM-1 carrier fighter from the Czech maker Art Scale. It is not a kit and not spare parts for a model, but an aid for painting: the templates bound the frames of the glazed cockpit, so after spraying the glazing stays clean and the edges of the frames sharp. The name gives the one-sided form, that is single-sided, which within this range tells the set apart from the double-sided variant. The full extent of the set is stated on the box.
The FM-1 is the license version of Grumman's Wildcat carrier fighter, built by the Eastern Aircraft division of General Motors. Against the original F4F-4 it carried lighter armament with four machine guns, which increased the ammunition supply per gun. It was powered by an R-1830 radial engine and, thanks to its folding wings and undemanding operation, the machine proved itself above all on small escort carriers. In British service it flew under the designation Martlet Mk.V.
It suits modelers who want a sharp transition on the cockpit frames and do not want to cut them laboriously out of tape. It saves the most time on glazing with a great many tiny frames and will serve even a beginner who is trying spraying through templates for the first time.
