FuG 202/212 - radar aerials for the Messerschmitt Bf-110D/E/F/G in 1:48 from AML capture the early form of the airborne radar of the German night fighter force.
Responsibility details are not available.
This aerial accessory from AML brings the early type of airborne radar equipment for models of the Bf 110 heavy fighter in the D to G versions in 1:48 scale. Do not look for the aircraft itself in the package - your kit supplies that, while the set deals solely with the forward aerial array.
After it withdrew from daylight operations, the twin-engined Messerschmitt Bf 110 became the backbone of the night fighter force over Germany. The FuG 202 Lichtenstein B/C and the simplified FuG 212 were the first airborne radars the Luftwaffe introduced in series; the dense array of dipoles on the nose was nicknamed Matratze, the mattress, after its appearance. Crews complained about the drag of the substantial structure, yet it was a turning point - for the first time the hunter saw the target with its own instruments, independently of the ground control stations.
Assemble the aerial array one support at a time and keep checking that all the rows of dipoles line up. Fine-tipped tweezers and a magnifier pay off here; fit the finished structure only after the airframe has been painted, so that masking does not endanger it. A tiny amount of cyanoacrylate is enough for the joints; any excess would drown the delicate parts.
