Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Tamiya. The real subject is the F-14D Super Tomcat, the final and technically most advanced version of the carrier-based fighter of the US Navy. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Tamiya is among the brands with a reputation for a very exact fit of the parts and comprehensible instructions, so the build is manageable without filling whole seams even at the size of the model.
The F-14 Tomcat was a two-seat carrier-based fighter with a variable-geometry wing, designed for the defense of carrier task forces at long range. The F-14D version differs from the older machines above all in its powerplant: in place of the problematic original engines it received the more powerful and more reliable F110-GE-400 engines, which gave the aircraft substantially better acceleration and removed its sensitivity to abrupt movements of the throttle at high angles of attack. The second fundamental change was new-generation digital avionics and the twin sensor pod under the forward part of the fuselage, where an infrared search and track system and a television camera system for the optical identification of targets at a distance sit side by side. F-14Ds arose both from new production and from the conversion of older airframes. The Tomcat was withdrawn from American naval service in 2006.
On a model with a variable-geometry wing, decide right at the start whether you want the wings movable or fixed in one position with glue, because that affects the course of the build. Finish and paint the cockpit and the landing gear bays before you close the fuselage. The gray schemes of the US Navy require an even coat, so an airbrush is more suitable than a spray can. Apply a gloss varnish before the decals, otherwise a silvery film will arise around them, and once it has dried unify the surface with a matte or semi-matte varnish. Bring out the panel lines with a thin wash. Keep the dirt of service rather restrained; carrier aircraft tend to be worn but not devastated.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
