A detail set of the type 1 engine cowling for the Grumman F6F Hellcat in 1:48 scale for modelers who want a more accurate shape to the nose of the aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory for a build, not a model of the aircraft. The set relates to the engine cowling of the Hellcat in 1:48 scale in the make designated as type 1. The cowling makes up the whole nose of the aircraft and sets its silhouette, so even a small deviation in its shape is conspicuous on a finished model. A replacement casting also allows a cleaner inner wall and a thinner leading edge than can be got with split parts.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was a carrier fighter of the US Navy of the Second World War, and it was powered by an air-cooled twin-row Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine. It is precisely the large-diameter radial engine that gave the Hellcat its characteristic bulky nose. During production the details of the cowling and of the cooling openings changed, which is why replacement parts are told apart by types and this distinction is given in the name.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry, otherwise a primer will not hold on the surface. Cut the casting block away with a fine saw and level the mating surface by wet sanding on a flat surface with your airways protected. Resin parts are glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Try the cowling dry against the fuselage before painting and even out any differences by sanding, not by putty in layers. Paint the inner wall before you seat the cowling, because later a brush will no longer reach in there.
