1:48 Hurricane Mk.I - masking for the landing gear bays for a clean separation of shades inside the wing on the earliest production version. Intended for the Airfix kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking aid for the landing gear bays of the Hurricane Mk.I version in 1:48 scale. It serves to give the inside of the wing its own shade without the modeler having to trace its edge laboriously. The mask is cut for the Airfix kit.
The Mk.I was the first production form of the type, and it was this version that bore the main burden of the defensive fighting over the south of England in the summer of 1940. The armament consisted of eight 7.7 mm machine guns spread across the wing. The structure was mixed: a steel-tube truss frame of the fuselage with fabric covering at the rear, while later production batches got an all-metal wing. It was this very construction that made the Hurricane a machine which could be repaired within a few hours right at the squadron after a hit, and in those critical weeks that was worth more than a few extra kilometers per hour.
The inner surfaces need a firm base, otherwise the coat is easily damaged during uncovering. Before you lay the sheet down, clear the plastic of grease from your fingers so that the edge seats along its whole length and does not lift anywhere. Keep the coats thin and leave a pause between them for setting. If you plan to pick out details with a thinned paint, wait until the masks are off so that the pigment is not drawn under the edge.
