The set from the Quickboost brand replaces the exhausts on a model of the FMA IA 58 Pucará in 1:48 scale. The exhaust outlets of the turboprop powerplant are clearly visible on this aircraft from the side as well as from above, and injection-molded plastic as a rule renders them as solid shapes with no open mouth. A resin casting solves that shortcoming. It is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory for a kit bought separately. The number of parts in the package is stated on the box.
The FMA IA 58 Pucará is an Argentine twin-engine turboprop aircraft intended for reconnaissance and support of ground units. Its slender nose with a tandem cockpit, its tall vertical tail surface and its fixed strengthened landing gear structure allowing operation from unpaved surfaces are characteristic. The type is popular with modelers precisely for its unusual look, and in 1:48 scale there is a wide choice of resin accessories and masks for it.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent. Cut the casting block off with a saw and sand the surface wet, so that the exhaust sits down with no gap. It is glued with cyanoacrylate applied with a toothpick. In terms of color, exhausts are best handled with a dark brown-black base, over which the metallic sheen is suggested with a dry brush; pure silver looks unnatural. Behind the outlets it is worth suggesting a fine dark deposit of exhaust gases, ideally with pigment or a thin wash, and keeping it in a narrow streak.
The add-on set is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
