LööK is an add-on set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard that combines a resin instrument panel with very fine color printing and separate seat harness belts. The aim is to replace the simplified plastic part from the box with a single finished piece that only needs gluing in, with no bending and painting of a great many tiny photo-etched parts. The set is intended for a model of the Il-2 attack aircraft in 1:48 scale and is not a kit; the model itself has to be bought separately.
The Ilyushin Il-2 was a Soviet single-engine attack aircraft of the Second World War, built in enormous numbers. A characteristic feature of the design was the armored shell into which the cockpit, the engine and the cooling system were built, which gave the machine its toughness in attacks on ground targets from low altitude. Single-seat and two-seat versions were built, the latter with a gunner covering the rear hemisphere. The cockpit of the Il-2 is clearly visible on a model and the instrument panel is among the most conspicuous details.
The finished panel needs no painting; just break it carefully out of the casting block and clean the surface. The plastic original in the kit usually has to be sanded down or removed entirely so that the new part fits and the fuselage will close. Dry-fit it, therefore. It is glued with cyanoacrylate applied in a minimal amount, as any excess could fog the glossy surface of the instruments. Once the seat harness belts are glued in, bend them gently so that they drape over the seat. At the end it helps to put a light flat touch around the panel so that the new part fits in with the rest of the cockpit in color.
This is an add-on set, not a kit of a model. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
