This injection-molded plastic kit from the Czech manufacturer Special Hobby represents the Italian IMAM Ro.37 biplane in 1:48 scale, in the version with the Fiat A.30 V engine. It is a short-run kit, complemented by photo-etched parts, small resin parts and a good decal sheet. The level of detail is medium, the plastic is softer and the build calls for care.
The IMAM Ro.37 was an Italian reconnaissance and observation biplane designed by Giovanni Galasso. It entered service with the Regia Aeronautica after 1934 as the successor to the older Ro.1. The version with the Fiat A.30 V engine differed from the Ro.37bis variant with its radial Piaggio engine. The Ro.37 saw use in the Spanish Civil War, in Africa and on other fronts, where it served for observation and cooperation with ground units.
As with short-run kits, expect to fine-tune the fit and sand the seams. Glue the parts with a thin plastic cement and the resin parts with cyanoacrylate. A primer and an airbrush are recommended. A biplane calls for careful seating of the upper wing and for tensioning the rigging where needed. Italian schemes (yellow-brown and green blotches) stand out with light weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
