An injection-molded plastic kit of the Piper L-4 Grasshopper light liaison and observation aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is a new mold from Special Hobby; the box contains two sprues of plastic parts together with a clear sprue and a decal sheet with markings for four machines. The From Africa to Central Europe edition follows the combat path of these aircraft from the landings in Africa through Italy and Normandy to the airfields of western Bohemia, where the Grasshoppers ended their wartime service.
The L-4 Grasshopper was created as a military conversion of the civil Piper J-3 Cub, which had proved itself in prewar army exercises. During the Second World War more than five thousand of these light aircraft were built, serving as liaison machines, as observation platforms for directing artillery fire, and as light transport and ambulance aircraft.
We recommend dry-fitting the parts, gluing with thin cement for plastic and applying a base filler before painting. With the glazed cabin careful masking pays off. Matte shades suit the fabric-covered surfaces of the fuselage and the wing; apply the decals onto a gloss base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
