About product

Eduard 1:48 Lavochkin La-7 — Color Photo-Etch (Zoom)

This set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard contains color, pre-painted photo-etched parts for a model of the fighter Lavochkin La-7 in 1:48 scale. It belongs to the Zoom line, that is, smaller sets that pick out just the most striking, most visible interior parts — mainly the instrument panel and the pilot's seat belts. The manufacturer states it for the La-7 kits from Eduard and Gavia. This is not an aircraft model — the kit is not included in the package.

What photo-etched parts are and why to use them

Photo-etch is a thin metal sheet from which individual parts are chemically etched. Metal can be far thinner than injection-molded plastic, so it manages details that plastic simply cannot: instrument panels with legible dials, seat belts including buckles, grilles, handles and levers. Because this set is color (pre-printed), the printed parts do not need to be painted — you just cut them out, bend them if needed, and glue them.

The real subject

The Lavochkin La-7 was a Soviet single-engine fighter from the end of the Second World War, powered by an air-cooled radial engine. It was one of the best Soviet fighters of its time — it excelled at low and medium altitudes, where most of the fighting on the Eastern Front took place. Many Soviet aces flew it, including the most successful Allied fighter pilot, Ivan Kozhedub.

Use and fitting

  • Cut the parts from the fret with a sharp scalpel or photo-etch scissors, ideally on a hard surface.
  • Make bends with a photo-etch bending tool or tweezers over a sharp edge — the metal bends, it does not snap.
  • Glue with cyanoacrylate (super glue); plastic cement does not bond to metal.
  • Do not paint the color (printed) parts — protect their surface from glue and sanding.
  • It often helps to sand down or cut away the original plastic relief underneath the photo-etch, so the part sits flush.

Who the set is for

For modelers building the La-7 in 1:48 scale who want a convincing interior under the open canopy without the lengthy hand-painting of small details. Working with photo-etch calls for patience, tweezers and good light, but the result shows immediately.

This is not a kit. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package. Photo-etched parts have sharp edges — work carefully, use cyanoacrylate glue in a well-ventilated area and protect your eyes.

FAQ

No. It is a photo-etch accessory set for upgrading the model. The La-7 kit in 1:48 scale itself must be purchased separately.

This set is color, that is, pre-painted. The printed parts do not need painting — just cut them out, bend them if needed, and glue them.

Cyanoacrylate (super glue). Plastic cement works by etching plastic, so it does not bond to metal.

The manufacturer states it for La-7 kits in 1:48 scale from Eduard and Gavia. Fit is not guaranteed with other kits.
