A painting mask from MH models for the Lloyd C.V model from Special Hobby in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor decals but a set of self-adhesive masks that are applied to a varnished model and oversprayed with paint. The markings are thus created directly in the finish and have no film of their own.
The Lloyd C.V was an Austro-Hungarian two-seat reconnaissance and observation biplane of the First World War period. Its structure was based on a wooden frame with fabric covering, power came from an inline water-cooled engine and the crew consisted of a pilot and an observer in open cockpits. The series designation defines the production batch of the machine, because machines of the same line differed between individual series in engine and in detail.
Models of First World War aircraft have a surface that does not favor painting masks: the fabric covering is divided by ribs and sags slightly between them. A mask will hold on such a surface only if you press it into every hollow, because otherwise paint runs exactly along a rib. Warming the paper lightly helps, as it makes it more pliable. Spray with heavily thinned paint at low pressure, so that the stream does not run under the edge, and accept that coverage will come only after several passes. A smaller scale also means smaller insignia, so reach for the fine masks with tweezers rather than with your fingers. After taking them off, go over the edges with a magnifier, because a small run is easier to repair in 1:48 scale straight away than after weathering.
The set serves as an accessory for a model and does not replace a kit. The model, glue and paints do not belong to the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
