This is an add-on set of cast resin, not a kit of an aircraft. It replaces the exhaust nozzle of the Lockheed Martin F-16C powered by the Pratt & Whitney F100 series engine, and that in the closed position. The set is intended for 1:48 scale and the maker is Reskit.
The exhaust nozzle is one of the most closely watched places on a model of a fighter. In injection-molded kits it is formed by two halves with a mold seam inside the duct, which can only be sanded away with difficulty, and the thin outer petals tend to be too thick because of the mold. A resin nozzle is cast in one piece, or from a few parts with a deep duct, so it has sharp petal edges and an inner wall with no seam, and the build shortens to cleaning up and gluing on.
This set corresponds to the closed, that is clenched position of the petals. The position of the nozzle on jet aircraft changes with the power setting of the engine and with whether the machine is standing parked. Choose the variant, therefore, according to the situation you want to capture with the model, and go by photographs of the particular machine. Watch the type of engine as well: the F-16 was delivered with two different powerplants and their nozzles look different, so a set for one type does not fit the other.
Wash the parts first in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that residues of the mold release agent are removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, never break them off, and sand the surface; when sanding resin, protect your airways and work wet. It is glued with superglue, that is cyanoacrylate. Apply a primer before painting. The nozzle is built up from metallic shades, to which heat tinting of the petals and soot streaks are added with pigments or heavily thinned paints. Before buying, check that the set matches your own kit.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
