A masking set from the Czech maker New Ware, cut from yellow kabuki paper. The templates are stuck onto the glazing of a Dornier Do 217 J model in 1:48 scale, sprayed over with the airframe color and removed once it has dried; clean glass and a sharply bounded frame stay under them. The EXPERT level is the most extensive variant of New Ware's masking sets, wider than the basic release. The particular contents of the package are given on the packaging. It is not a model of an aircraft nor decals.
The Dornier Do 217 was a German twin-engine aircraft of the Second World War, derived from the Do 17 and Do 215 line but markedly larger and heavier. The J version came about as a night fighter modification with a solid front section instead of a glazed nose and with armament in the nose. That is exactly why this version has a different division of the glazing from the bomber releases, and a mask cut for another version would not fit the model.
Kabuki paper has the advantage that it can be shaped slightly into curves and leaves no adhesive behind once removed. Lift the templates out of the sheet with a scalpel, not with your fingers, so that you do not crease the edges. Once they are stuck down, run a wooden toothpick or a burnisher along the edge of the mask so that it beds down; bleeding almost always arises only because an edge has not been pressed down. Apply the paint with an airbrush in thin layers, not in one dense pass - a dense layer is forced under the edge. First spray the frame in the shade of the cockpit interior and only then in the airframe color, so that the frame is correct from the inner side. Remove the masks while the coat is fresh, ideally within a few hours of spraying; let an older sheet sit in the warm for a while before use, as the adhesive then holds better.
