Guide pins for silicone molds, size M — Master Tools

This is a modeling aid for casting into silicone molds, not a kit and not a part of a model. The package holds a set of plastic guide pins in blue in the medium size. Before the second half of the mold is cast, the pins are pushed into the already cured first half; once removed, they leave accurate locating dimples in the silicone and matching projections, thanks to which the two halves of the mold always come together in the same position.

Use

• Place the pins around the master in the first, already cured half of the silicone mold, at a sufficient distance from the shape being cast.
• Treat both the parting face and the pins with a mold release agent, so that the two halves of the mold do not join together.
• Once the second half has been cast, take the mold apart and remove the pins; the keys that result ensure repeatable registration.
• Size M suits ordinary molds for smaller parts; on very small molds choose a smaller size, and on large ones a larger one instead.
• The pins are reusable; after the work they only need cleaning.

Working with the pins is simple, so it also suits a first attempt at casting.

An aid for modeling use; it is not a toy. When working with silicones and resins, follow the instructions of the manufacturer of those materials, work in a ventilated space and use gloves. The silicone, the resin and the mold release agent are not included in the package.
