A masking set for spraying the insignia and markings on a model of the record-breaking Messerschmitt Me 209 V1 in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Me 209 V1 was a single-seat machine built by Messerschmitt purely for speed attempts. With an airframe pared down to the smallest possible dimensions and a supercharged V12, it was unpleasant to fly, but in April 1939 it set an absolute speed record that stood for decades among piston-engine aircraft. It shares only its manufacturer and its period with the Bf 109 fighter; in design terms it is a different machine.
Masks for spraying the insignia and markings, that is, a substitute for decals. Sprayed markings have no glossy film and no edge that would telegraph through the clear coat, and on a flat finish they look far truer than a decal. The set is cut for 1:48 scale; before you set to work, offer the mask up to the part and check that it fits your kit.
Apply the mask only to a finished and fully cured coat, on a clean and degreased surface, and press the edge down properly. Spray the paint in thin coats at right angles to the surface so that it does not run under the edge. Underlay light markings on a dark base with a coat of white, or the base will show through. Lift the mask shortly after the paint has dried, slowly and at a shallow angle.
For the modeler who is building this record-breaking machine and wants the markings sprayed rather than stuck on. The work takes longer than a decal, but on a smooth finish the result stands up even at close range.
The model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
