1:48 MiG-17A Fresco-A is a plastic kit of the subsonic jet fighter from the Czech maker Kovozavody Prostejov.

An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale depicting the MiG-17 in its A version, that is, the basic day fighter without radar, to which the code designation Fresco-A corresponds. The model is part of a wider range in which further variants of the same type are released as well, so it can be built as part of a comparative collection. The MiG-17 was a single-seat subsonic fighter that followed on from the older MiG-15. It brought a new wing with a greater sweep angle and an enlarged area of the control surfaces, a lengthened fuselage and modified tail surfaces; the result was better handling at high speeds. The version designated A was a day fighter with a centrifugal-flow turbojet without an afterburner; the afterburner and radar came only with later variants. The type was also built under license outside the Soviet Union and served in many countries long after its main era had ended.
The key is to deal with the assembly of the air intake duct and of the cockpit before the fuselage is closed, because once it is glued you can no longer reach them. Paint and finish the cockpit and the instrument panel beforehand. Test the parts dry and rather adjust the mating surfaces a little than force them together. Use thin cement applied with a fine brush on plastic. The natural metal finish typical of a number of machines of this generation calls for a carefully smoothed and polished base, ideally a gloss black primer under the metallic paint; the individual panels can be set apart with slightly different shades of metal. Lay a gloss coat over the areas before the decals and keep the weathering moderate.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
