1:48 Mikoyan MiG-29 Exterior is a detail set of exterior features from Metallic Details for a model of this fighter aircraft in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not an aircraft kit, but a focused detail accessory. The set adds to a MiG-29 model in 1:48 scale the small exterior features that come out badly in injection-molded plastic. It is a typical single-purpose accessory, bought to go with a basic kit and used in the last hours of work on the model.
The small scope is not a drawback here, but the intention. While extensive conversion sets call for cutting and filling, a set of this type is a painless extra step that does not change the course of the build. With exterior details the ratio of work spent to visible result is one of the best there is, because these are features standing above a smooth surface, where every edge shows.
The MiG-29 is a Soviet twin-engine fighter of the middle category with a blended airframe layout, separated engine nacelles and twin vertical tails. It is noticeably smaller and lighter than the heavier types of the same generation, which in 1:48 scale results in a more compact model on which even small exterior features stand out.
It pays to go through the kit instructions in advance and mark in pencil the places where the parts from the set will go. Remove the plastic originals before the model is painted and sand and polish the area afterwards, otherwise a matte trace will remain where you sanded. Paint the metal parts separately, stuck on double-sided tape, all at once and from a distance. Fit them only at the very end and apply the cyanoacrylate glue in a minimal drop, ideally with a piece of thin wire. Before you put the model in the display case, let the joints cure for at least an hour without handling.
This is an accessory for building a model, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
