The set brings replacement landing gear wheels for a kit of the upgraded MiG-29 SMT in 1:48 scale. It is an aftermarket accessory from the Ukrainian maker Reskit, not an aircraft model. The resin castings have a crisper tread pattern and more cleanly rendered hubs than the injection-molded plastic parts from the base box.
The MiG-29 SMT is an upgrade branch of the basic MiG-29 frontline fighter. Its most conspicuous recognition feature is the markedly enlarged dorsal spine behind the cockpit, which carries a greater fuel load and so extends the range. The upgrade also touched the avionics and the cockpit equipment, and the aircraft is adapted for a wider range of external stores. The landing gear remains a robust design intended for operation from less prepared surfaces as well.
Wash the castings in water with dish soap so that the surface is free of mold release agent, otherwise the primer will not hold. Separate the casting blocks with a saw cut, level the rest with a file and wet-sand it with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). When painting, it helps to spray the hubs separately and fit them into the tires once they are dry; the line between hub and rubber then only needs a careful touch-up with a brush.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted and is not a model in its own right. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
