The real subject

The Mi-24 combined two things that had been built separately until then: an armored attack machine with pylons for weapons and a cargo cabin for troops. The Mi-24A version comes from the start of the line and can be told from the later machines at a distance. It has a large shared glazed cockpit canopy instead of the two separate stations in tandem, which only came with the following versions. Short stub wings carry the pylons and unload the main rotor in fast flight, which gives the machine an unmistakable silhouette.

What the set offers

Colored relief elements of the SPACE range in 1:48 scale. The instruments, labels and color fields are finished, so they do not have to be picked out with a brush. The glazing of the Mi-24A is extensive and you can see more of the inside through it than on most other machines, which repays work on detail. The extent of the set and the placement of the elements are given on the packaging and in the enclosed instructions; follow them for the order of work as well. Once the cockpit is closed, the interior is out of reach.

How to work with the elements

• Only the backing paper under the element is moistened, ideally with a damp sponge and a drop of detergent.
• Lift the released element off with tweezers and seat it into a thin layer of white PVA glue; the manufacturer does not recommend cyanoacrylate glue.
• Do not use a decal softener; the chemicals would attack the printed surface.
• Paint the surface, let it cure, degrease it before fitting and sand any raised plastic detail at the seating point smooth.
• Fit the glazing last, so that no dust gets inside.
