A small but conspicuous detail: a flexible imitation of braided oxygen hose, which AIMS supplies as one piece. It comes into its own in the pilot's compartment at the oxygen regulator and serves just as well as braided cable at the engine, where a modeler otherwise reaches for wire or strings.
An open canopy is the first place the viewer looks into. The instrument panel and the seat tend to be decently rendered in kits, but the plumbing is almost always missing, and yet it is precisely that which gives the compartment depth. A braided hose led from the wall to the regulator also works as a scale reference: by it the eye recognizes how cramped the cockpit really is.
It is divided to the needed length with a sharp scalpel; shape the bends gradually so that the braiding does not flatten. Sink the ends into a blind hole or cover them with a collar of thin sheet. The surface paints well after degreasing; a dark base and a dry brush in a lighter shade bring the texture of the braiding out nicely. A drop of thick varnish will mask the transition to the regulator; the joint disappears in it and you do not have to sand it.
The package contains one piece of material; the rest of the cockpit equipment is left to the modeler.
