Decals 1:48 for two Thunderbolts of the 62nd Fighter Squadron with the code LM, both subjects in the razorback guise.
Responsibility details are not available.
The 56th Fighter Group earned its nickname in England after its commander and his way of leading a fight. It was the only one in the Eighth Air Force to stay with the Thunderbolt until the end of the war, while the other groups changed over to Mustangs. That is exactly why its aircraft became the most photographed and best documented family of machines of this type.
Both subjects on the sheet belong to the 62nd Fighter Squadron, which you can recognize by the letters LM in front of the individual marking. The aircraft 42-26298 carries a pair of inscriptions on the nose, one of which refers to a German prisoner of war camp for airmen, and its letter is supplemented by a horizontal bar, because a second machine with the same marking served in the squadron. The second aircraft, 42-7937 with the letter Q, has a short girl's name and belongs to the winter period of 1944, when the group flew escort on deep raids over Germany.
A thin layer of dissolved adhesive is left around a seated design, which when dry shows as a matte outline. Before you reach for the protective clear coat, go over the surroundings with a damp cloth or a cotton bud dipped in clean water and let the model dry again. Without that step the outline is fixed under the clear coat and can no longer be removed.
