The set brings three-dimensionally printed instrument panels, side consoles and seat belts into the cockpit of a Thunderbolt in 1:48 scale. Everything is on decal paper, so nothing is cut and nothing is glued — the parts are soaked off and positioned like ordinary decals. This is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory for the interior of the Tamiya kit.
The Thunderbolt had an unusually roomy cockpit by the standards of its day and its equipment matches. The most characteristic part is the left control console: side by side here lie the levers for the throttle, the propeller and the turbocharger controls, which other single-engine fighters of the period do not have. To that belong the instruments monitoring the work of the turbocharger, which fill the panel up more than on lighter types. The seat is wide, with prominently routed shoulder and lap belts. Because the cockpit is physically large, once the canopy is removed or slid back you really can see deep inside — flat plastic panels hit the eye there more than on smaller machines.
Paint the area under the decal, let it dry and, if need be, polish it with varnish so that the base is smooth. Soak the part in lukewarm water, move it into place and press it down with a soft brush or a cotton swab. Sand the engraved detail in the plastic flat beforehand. Apply decal softener by drops and do not run anything across a decal that is still damp, so that the layered print does not wrinkle.
The accessory is supplied without a kit, paints or glue. Check before ordering that you are building the Tamiya kit.
