Rob Taurus 1:48 P-51 B Malcolm is a vacuum-formed clear canopy with the bulged Malcolm hood for building a Mustang. It is not an aircraft model, but a detail-up accessory.
Responsibility details are not available.
A vacuum-formed (vacuform) clear canopy in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Rob Taurus. It reproduces the characteristic bulged sliding hood of the Malcolm type, with which early Mustangs were converted for a much better view from the cockpit. It is not an aircraft model, but a detail accessory.
The North American P-51 B was an early version of the famous American Mustang fighter, with a framed canopy. A number of aircraft, especially in British service, were fitted with the bulged sliding Malcolm hood, which replaced the original angular glazing and gave the pilot a better all-round view. This solution came before the later all-round vision bubble canopy.
The molding is cut out along the outline with a sharp knife, and the edges are then sanded and polished. The thin part makes it possible to show the canopy open. It is bonded with a glue for clear parts that does not fog the plastic; the frames are masked before painting.
This is a stand-alone accessory. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
