Panther and Jagdpanther Ausf. G photo-etched boxes 1:48 from the Czech maker Hauler add stowage and tool boxes folded from thin brass sheet to the hull.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched set of stowage boxes, in German Kisten, for models of the Panther Ausf. G medium tank and the Jagdpanther tank destroyer in 1:48 scale. The boxes are folded from flat parts into three-dimensional shapes and mount on the hull. The set is cut for the Tamiya kit and is not a model in its own right.
Crews fixed boxes for tools, kit and personal belongings to the hulls of their vehicles. They were simple sheet-metal or wooden containers, often improvised, held on by straps or by welded brackets. In period photographs their number and position differ from vehicle to vehicle, so you have a free hand when building and the model gains an individual character.
Folded boxes are an ideal job for photo-etch: the sheet has the right gauge and the edges stay sharp. Make the bends in a bender, first tack the corners with a tiny drop of super glue and only finish the joint once you have checked the right angles. Leave the lids of some boxes slightly open, which creates depth. Pick a shade for the boxes that differs from the hull, because they were often sourced elsewhere, and add worn edges and light rust. Inside a part-open box it pays to suggest a dark shadow.
This is an accessory, not a kit in its own right. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
