An injection-molded plastic kit of the German medium tank Panzer IV in the Ausf.J version in 1:48 scale from the Military Miniature range of Tamiya. The model captures the late, production-simplified variant with the long 7.5cm KwK 40 L/48 gun, side armor skirts (Schürzen) and an additional fuel supply. The lower hull in this range is designed with the weight of the model in mind, and assembled tracks and several marking options are included. Check the exact package contents and the number of schemes against the manufacturer's information.
The Panzer IV was the most widespread German medium tank of the Second World War and the only one built throughout the whole conflict. The Ausf.J version appeared at the end of the war as a simplified form to speed up production — it dropped the electric turret traverse (replaced by a hand crank) in favor of a larger fuel supply and a longer range. The long 75 mm gun gave the tank good penetrating power against Allied equipment.
First assemble and paint the running gear and the lower hull before you close the hull up. Glue the parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and attach the side skirts only after the running gear has been painted. Apply a primer and the paints with an airbrush, and apply the decals over a gloss coat. Bring out the panel and rivet details with a wash and add mud and dust effects with pigments for realistic weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
