A vacuum-formed clear canopy for a Pe-2 aircraft model in 1:48 scale. A replacement for the part from a plastic kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Petlyakov Pe-2 is a Soviet twin-engined bomber of the Second World War, also used for dive attacks. Above the fuselage it carries extensive glazing for the pilot and the navigator and another glazed position at the rear. In 1:48 scale a great deal is visible under the canopy, so the cleanness of the clear part matters more than in smaller scales.
The set is a clear canopy vacuum-formed from thin film. The thin wall is the main advantage: the part does not thicken the frames, does not distort the view inside and looks closer to real glazing than a thicker injection-molded canopy. At the same time it is pliable and sensitive to scratches, so hold it by the edges and put it down on a soft surface.
First trace the outline with a soft pencil or a marker that washes off, then cut it out with a margin and sand down to the line. Sand in short strokes on a flat board and keep trying the fit dry; you can always take more off, but you cannot put it back. For bonding use a product for clear parts, as ordinary super glue will fog the surface. Mask the frames before spraying the paint and remove the masks while the coat is still fresh.
The set is for builders who want to show the cockpit equipment of a Pe-2 model in 1:48 scale, or who need a replacement for a damaged canopy. Expect hand work when trimming, but the result matches it. The package contains the clear part only, unless stated otherwise; the model, paints, masks and glue are not included.
