The Piper J-3 Cub is among the most widespread light aircraft of all. It is a two-seat high-wing monoplane with the seats in tandem, a welded tubular fuselage structure covered in fabric, a fixed landing gear with a tailwheel and a small flat engine of low power. The aircraft is marked by a short takeoff and landing run and a very low stalling speed, which made it a popular machine for training, for flying club use and for liaison and observation tasks in its military derived standard. Thanks to its simple design and long operational history, a modeler can meet it in civil and military colors of a number of countries.
A small aircraft in 1:48 scale means small parts and a lot of glazing, so it pays to try all the main parts dry first and only then to glue. Clean the parting lines and the gate remnants up carefully with a file or a sanding sponge. Choose the glue according to the material of the particular part: thin modeling cement for plastic parts, superglue for any resin or metal extras. Finish and paint the cockpit interior and the fuselage frame before the fuselage is closed up, because the inside is visible through the glazing. Use a primer before painting, prepare a gloss base for the decals and secure the finished model with a matte or semi-gloss clear coat according to the character of the subject.
