The Eduard 1:48 PV-1 undercarriage photo-etched set is a metal accessory for a plastic kit of the patrol aircraft in 1:48 scale, aimed at the landing gear. It is not a model of an aircraft but a set of parts for one.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a photo-etched set from the Czech maker Eduard for a plastic model of the Lockheed PV-1 Ventura aircraft in 1:48 scale. The designation undercarriage in the name says that the set concerns the landing gear and its bays. The landing gear is very visible on a finished model, because the machine stands on it, and it is at the same time a place full of thin sheet, stiffeners and lines. That is where injection-molded plastic runs into its limits and photo-etched metal can replace it in a realistic thickness.
The Lockheed PV-1 Ventura was an American twin-engine patrol and bomber aircraft derived from a civil Lockheed twin. It was powered by a pair of Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engines. It flew chiefly on patrol and anti-submarine duties and on attacks against ground and naval targets.
The landing gear bays are detailed early, before the nacelles or the fuselage are closed, whereas the gear legs themselves are fitted only at the end of the build so that they are not damaged in handling. Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp scalpel or photo-etch shears on a hard surface and make the bends over a straight edge, best in a bending tool. They are bonded with super glue or epoxy. Degrease the metal before painting and lay on a primer. In the bays and on the gear legs a wash and fine pigments pay off, because it is the dirtiest part of the aircraft.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a stand-alone model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
