Hauler 1:48 Pz.IV turret Schürzen is a photo-etched set of the side armor skirts for the turret of the Pz.IV tank, cut for the 1:48 kit given by the name.
Responsibility details are not available.
This photo-etched set from the Czech maker Hauler takes care of the side armor skirts around the turret of the Pz.IV tank. It replaces the plastic parts of the 1:48 kit it is cut for, which the name gives. It is not a model - it is a metal accessory that mounts on a finished turret.
While the hull sides were protected by long hanging plates, the turret of the Pz.IV was wrapped by a separate skirt running around its sides and rear. At the back it had a door that opened so that the crew could get out and bring up ammunition. The skirts were made of thin sheet and did their job precisely by standing off from the armor. In service, however, they commonly bent, got lost or were taken off altogether by the crews - there are plenty of period photographs with an incomplete set.
The biggest job here is shaping: the skirt has to follow a smooth arc around the turret without kinks. It helps to pre-bend it around a suitable cylindrical object - a thin drill bit or a brush handle, say - and only then dry-fit it on the turret. Degrease the brass before painting and cover it with primer. Because the skirt stands a little away from the armor, paint the turret and the inner face of the skirt before fitting. If you want to set the vehicle in a scene, try buckling one segment or leaving it out, and bring out the edges by wearing the paint through to bare metal.
This is an accessory set, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
