An injection-molded plastic kit of the Polish aircraft PZL.42 in 1:48 scale from the Polish manufacturer Mirage Hobby. The real subject is a prototype machine on which the modifications leading to a more capable successor of the PZL.23 light bomber were tested. The model is supplied as an unassembled set of plastic parts with decals, and the particular extent of the accessories may differ between the individual releases.
The PZL.42 arose from the conversion of an aircraft of the PZL.23 Karas series and served as a test machine for verifying new features. The most conspicuous change was twin vertical tail surfaces in place of the original single one, which improved the field of view for the rear gunner and the stability. The second fundamental novelty was a retractable ventral gondola for the bombardier. Both were then reflected in the later PZL.46 Sum design. The PZL.42 did not pass into series production and remained with the tests, among which was the verification of dive bombing. It is precisely from there that the designation of the aircraft as a light dive bomber comes.
Before gluing, verify the joints of the fuselage and the wing dry and watch the symmetry of the two vertical tail surfaces. Finish the cockpit and the space of the gondola before you close the fuselage, as in 1:48 scale a great deal of them is visible. Glue the transparent parts with canopy glue. Apply a filler primer before painting, spray the camouflage shades with an airbrush, use a gloss varnish under the decals and in conclusion unify the surface with a matte varnish. Prototype machines tended to be well kept, so keep the weathering sparing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
