Self-adhesive masks cut to the shape of the glazing of a Rafale C model from the Academy kit in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but an accessory for painting. The designation double-sided means masks for the outer and the inner face of the glass, that is also the option of spraying the canopy frame from within with cockpit color.
Modern single-seat aircraft have glazing that is tall, long and curved in two directions at once. A mask behaves differently on such a surface than on the broken-up cockpit of the propeller fighter era: a straight strip of tape would wrinkle on a double curvature, whereas a pre-cut part is slit so as to take the curve in. Lay it on from the highest point of the dome and press steadily out to the sides so that no air bubble is left. Because a large area of glass is visible under the mask, it pays to wash the clear part before sticking it on and then not to touch it with fingers. Around the boundary of the mask, spray the finest mist you can and in thin coats, because on large smooth glazing every step at an edge shows more than it would on a small model.
The Dassault Rafale C is the single-seat land-based version of the French multirole combat aircraft, with a delta wing and canard surfaces. The cockpit sits high and the canopy forms a large continuous transparent surface, which makes masking a visible part of the work.
The kit, paints and varnishes are not included in the package. The number of parts and the material of the film are not stated here.
