An injection-molded plastic model of the biplane fighter Curtiss Hawk III (BF2C-1) in the service of the Republic of China Air Force (ROCAF), in 1:48 scale from Freedom Model Kits. It is new tooling with finely engraved panel lines, a detailed cockpit, engine and retractable landing gear; the cockpit can be built open or closed.
The Hawk III was an American Curtiss biplane fighter of the 1930s derived from the carrier-borne BF2C. It was notable for its retractable landing gear, which was unusual on a biplane. The Republic of China Air Force used it as its main fighter and as a light bomber in the opening phase of the Sino-Japanese War in 1937; the machines served, among other places, in the defense of Shanghai.
On a biplane the bracing wires between the wings are the key, so plan the assembly sequence so that you fit the wires only after the main surfaces are painted. Assemble and paint the cockpit and the engine before closing the fuselage. Glue the plastic with liquid cement for plastic, then fill and sand the joints. Apply a primer before painting and spray the colors with an airbrush in thin coats; seat the upper wing carefully and square to the fuselage.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
