1:48 Royal Navy WWII / Post War Aircraft Carrier Wheel Chocks are wheel chocks for Royal Navy carrier aircraft of the wartime and the postwar period.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of chocks from the AIMS brand of the kind used on the flight decks of British aircraft carriers during the Second World War and in the years after it. It completes the space around a model: a machine parked on a deck without its wheels secured looks unfinished, even if the aircraft itself is built faultlessly.
On a heaving deck a piece of wood under the tire is not enough. The chocks were joined to one another by ropes or straps thrown over the wheel, so that they would stay in place when the ship tilted, and the crew had to handle them quickly, often between turning propellers. From that comes their characteristic shape and the loops by which they differ from the gear of shore bases.
Offer the chocks up dry before you fix the model to the base. By them it is possible to tell whether the wheels sit down on their whole footprint and whether the aircraft is standing crooked. Wood is painted with an ocher base, after which comes a thin brown filter and a light highlighting of the edges. Do not forget the wear at the point of contact with the tire and the darker deposits down at the ground.
The package contains the chocks only. A base, figures and the aircraft do not belong with it.
