This Art Scale set of masks is intended for a model of the Swedish SAAB J21 fighter in 1:48 scale. The masks are cut to the shape of the clear parts of the kit of this type, so they replace the tedious measuring and trimming of masking tape directly on the model. The kit and the paints are not included in the package; it is an accessory.
The double-sided version: it allows for masking the framing from the outer and the inner side of the glazing. On the J21 that makes sense, because the canopy is fairly tall and the cockpit is clearly visible.
The SAAB J21 was a Swedish fighter designed with an untypical layout: an engine with a pusher propeller behind the cockpit, the tail surfaces carried on a pair of booms and the armament concentrated in the nose. It was precisely the placing of the propeller behind the pilot that led to the use of an ejection seat, which was not common when the aircraft was created. In Swedish service the type served mainly in the postwar period and became the starting point for a later jet version.
Wash, degrease and thoroughly dry the glazing. Lift the mask off the backing with tweezers, lay it on the frame and press from the center toward the edges. Where a rounded part passes into a flat surface, it pays to trim the mask along the outline with a scalpel or to nick it gently so that it seats without creases. Lay the paint on in several thin coats; a heavy application makes a step at the edge. Lift the masks shortly after drying, pulling at an angle across the edge of the frame.
It is an accessory, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
