A photo-etched set for the Soviet GAZ-MM truck in 1:48 scale is an accessory for a plastic kit you have already bought, not a model. It refines the sheet-metal elements of the wartime, simplified version of the famous poltorka.

A truck is a rewarding object for photo-etched accessories: it has fenders, steps, a radiator grille, brackets and a great many thin sheets that injection-molded plastic inevitably thickens. The set from the Czech maker Hauler offers a metal replacement for them for the Tamiya plastic kit. It is neither a kit nor a finished model - without the base kit you cannot use it.
The GAZ-MM was a Soviet truck with a payload of one and a half tons, nicknamed the poltorka. It grew out of an American design produced under license and was the most widespread truck of the Red Army. In the wartime version of the beginning of the 1940s the production was radically simplified: the cab was given angular shapes and wooden or canvas elements, the fenders were pressed from flat sheet, and one headlight and some of the flanges were dropped. The vehicles served for supply, for evacuating the wounded and as a chassis for special bodies.
With a truck it pays to proceed in units: first finish and paint the frame with the running gear, then the cab and finally the bed. Fit the photo-etched fenders and steps only after the base coat, or you will bend them while handling the model. The brackets and the flanges are helped by being tried dry before gluing and having their shape fine-tuned. Wartime vehicles were usually in a single color, which does a model good - the whole effect stands on the weathering: splashes of mud on the fenders, a chipped edge on a step, dust on the bed and a different shade for the wooden parts.
This is an accessory set for a kit you have already bought. It is supplied unpainted; the base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
