1:48 Spitfire Mk. Va/b undercarriage legs BRONZE are bronze landing gear legs for the model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. Va and Mk. Vb in 1:48 scale. A replacement for the plastic parts from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Plastic landing gear legs are a permanent weak point on models: they carry the whole weight of the finished model, they bow in time and they crack under careless handling. A bronze casting solves that problem, because the metal is stiff, the model stands square on it even after years and the detail of the casting is sharper than in plastic. The set is an accessory for the plastic model of the Spitfire in the Mk. Va and Mk. Vb versions in 1:48 scale; the kit, glue and paints are not included in the package. The contents of the package are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging of the set.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk. V was the most numerously built variant of this British fighter. The Va version carried machine gun armament, the Vb a combination of machine guns and 20 mm cannon; the main landing gear with its narrow track, retracting outwards, stayed the same on both. It is precisely the narrow track of the landing gear that is characteristic of the Spitfire, and on a model everyone who looks at it from the front looks at that.
Degrease the metal parts before painting: mild dish soap and a thorough rinse are enough, or a wipe with alcohol. Without a base coat the paint will not hold on smooth bronze, so use a primer suitable for metal. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue or with two-part epoxy resin; plastic cement does not work here. Fit the legs only once the gear bays are painted and try them dry first so that the forward rake sits right. At the end add a fine wash into the recesses and light weathering around the oleo.
The set is an accessory for a plastic model, not a kit in its own right. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
