A set of replacement resin wheels in 1:48 scale fitted with snow chains. It serves to change the wheels on a built model of the German Steyr Type 1500A/01 cross-country car; the vehicle itself is not part of the package.
Chains on the wheels are a small thing, yet they give away the whole story of a scene. A car with them belongs to winter, to a rutted road or to mud, and the viewer sees that before noticing anything else. Cast wheels are also usually rendered more deeply than the plastic originals and allow the space between the links of the chain to be shaded.
The Steyr 1500A was part of a standardized range of cross-country cars of Austrian manufacture that the Wehrmacht used as command, signals and ambulance vehicles. They were powered by an air-cooled eight-cylinder engine, which was an advantage on the Eastern Front: there was no risk of the coolant freezing. That is exactly why these cars appear in period photographs from the winter campaigns.
First check on the model how the axle stubs are arranged, and only then cut off the casting gates. Once the wheels have been washed free of mold release agent, paint them separately while they are still accessible: the rubber in dark gray, the chains in a metallic shade with a rich dark flow. Seat them at the very end so they do not get in the way while you paint the wheel arches.
