Kabuki tape masks in 1:48 scale for painting the exhaust nozzles of a Su-27 Flanker B model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of masks for painting the exhaust nozzles of a Su-27 model in 1:48 scale. On a model the nozzles are among the places that decide the final impression: they are made up of overlapping petals, they tend to be in shades different from the rest of the airframe, and trimming tape by hand directly on a round surface is slow and rarely comes out precise. Pre-cut masks take that work away.
Kabuki is a thin Japanese paper tape with a weak adhesive. It holds well enough to keep paint from creeping underneath, but it comes off without residue and without the risk of tearing off the coat below. It adapts well to a curved surface, which on nozzles is the main thing. How many parts the set contains and in what order they are applied is given in the manufacturer's instructions included.
They are applied before spraying, onto a clean, degreased, dry surface. Transfer the mask with pointed tweezers, lay it in place and press the edge down with a toothpick. The nozzles are usually sprayed in sections so that different metallic shades stand out side by side; apply each further mask only onto a coat that has set, otherwise it will tear the paint below off. Unmask a finished area shortly after spraying, not once the paint has fully hardened.
This is an accessory for a kit. The kit itself, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
