A set of pre-cut kabuki masks for one particular part of a 1:48 model of the carrier-borne Su-27K from the manufacturer Minibase, the engine exhaust nozzles. The designation of parts G9 in the name points to the parts of the kit the masks are cut for. New Ware runs a variant for parts G28 alongside it, so check which nozzles you are building on your own model before you buy. It is neither an aircraft model nor a set of replacement nozzles, but a masking accessory.
The Su-27K is the carrier-borne variant of the Su-27, later designated Su-33. It has folding wings and tailplanes, a pair of canard foreplanes, strengthened landing gear and an arrestor hook for landing on an aircraft carrier. On the real aircraft the exhaust nozzles of both engines are made up of an assembly of movable segments. On the model this is a place where metal shades are commonly combined with darker bands and where masking by hand takes the most work.
The masks are die-cut on a carrier film. Lift the strips with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and stick them onto the clean, degreased surface of the nozzle. On curved surfaces work in short sections and keep pressing the edges down with a toothpick so that the tape does not wrinkle. Spray the paint in thin coats at lower pressure. Metal shades have a heavier pigment that settles to the bottom, so stir them thoroughly before spraying and lay them on a smooth undercoat, otherwise every scratch stands out. Lift the mask off shortly after it has dried, while the paint is still flexible.
This is a masking accessory, not a kit. The aircraft model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
