The Su-30SM is a two-seat multirole machine in which the rear seat is not occupied by an instructor but by a second crew member with tasks of their own. The cockpit is therefore interesting because it stands on the border between two worlds: compared with the older analog generation, multi-function displays have been added here, but the round standby instruments have not disappeared from the panel. The result is a mixed panel on which screens with button bezels lie alongside classic dials — and that is the hardest combination for the modeler, because each of those elements is painted differently. The two stations are also not identical; the rear one has a different layout according to its role. The variant designation in the name refers to a particular form of the cockpit, which differs in equipment from the other variants of the same machine.
A dial can still be suggested with a brush. A screen with content cannot — and it is screens that this panel has most of. A photo-etched part will offer bezels and relief, but the areas of the displays stay empty. A decal from the box is flat. A color print with 3D texture gives legible displays and three-dimensional gauges at once. Apply it to a smoothly painted, matte and degreased base, settle it with a decal softener and let it dry out.
This is a cockpit accessory, not a kit. The kit, paints, decal softener and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
