A painting mask from MH models for 1:48 scale, focused on the markings of the aircraft. It is neither a kit nor a decal sheet but a set of self-adhesive masks. Once they are applied to a varnished surface and sprayed over with paint, the insignia stays permanently in the finish. The target kit is Tamiya.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I was the first version in series production of the British fighter with stressed-skin all-metal construction and an elliptical wing. It was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 and the landing gear retracted into the wing. The machines changed continuously during production, as early and late examples had a different propeller, canopy shape or exhausts, and that has to be followed when building a particular aircraft.
Before you finally apply a mask, lay it down dry, that is, without lifting it from the backing film where that is possible, and check its position against the panel lines and the edges of the surfaces. This dry-fitting reveals most problems before it is too late: a size that does not fit, a different placement from the one your scheme has, and even the fact that one of the insignia was not on that particular machine at all. It also pays to photograph the whole sheet first or to trace its outline, so that after removing individual pieces you know what belongs where. Do not throw unused masks away, because they last a long time on the backing film if you store them flat, in the dark and away from sources of heat. Paper with dried-out adhesive no longer seals on a model and is the main cause of runs with older stock.
This set is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model, paints and varnishes are not supplied with it, unless stated otherwise.
