An injection-molded plastic kit of the British fighter Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc in its late version, in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, in the ProfiPACK edition. It adds colored photo-etched parts and painting masks to the plastic, and the package includes decals for several color schemes. Eduard's family of 1:48 Spitfires is renowned for shape accuracy, fine engraving, and thoughtfully varied parts. The cockpit is richly detailed, and the glazing is clear and thin.
The Spitfire Mk.IX was created as a quick response to the German Fw 190 — the proven Spitfire airframe received the more powerful two-stage Merlin 60 engine. The result was one of the most successful versions, which restored altitude superiority to British pilots. The designation c refers to the universal wing with mixed armament, and late to a late production form with minor changes. The Mk.IX served on every front and with many Allied air forces.
Use liquid plastic cement and test-fit the parts dry. Glue the colored photo-etch with cyanoacrylate, and paint the glazing over the included masks. Spray a primer before painting, apply gloss varnish under decals, and unify the whole with a matte coat. British camouflage schemes look their best with fine shading and subtle weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
