The Eduard 1:48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XII masking set holds pre-cut self-adhesive masks for covering the glazing of a model of the British fighter while the paint is sprayed.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of self-adhesive masks from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a plastic model of the Spitfire Mk.XII fighter in 1:48 scale. The masks are pre-cut to the shape of the individual panes of the cockpit glazing, so the laborious cutting of tape to the frames is avoided. This version of the set is intended for masking from the outside; the manufacturer also supplies a version designated TFace, which adds masks for the inner side of the glazing.
Masking by hand with tape is slow on the curved canopy of a Spitfire and the edge tends to be irregular. A pre-cut mask seats into the pane of glazing exactly, holds its shape and after spraying leaves the frame with a crisp transition. The result shows above all on a model in 1:48 scale, where the cockpit is clearly visible.
First degrease the glazing and rid it of fingerprints. Lay the mask on with tweezers and press it down with a soft tool so that the edges seat along their whole length. Spray the paint in several thin coats; one heavy coat creeps under the edge and leaves a step. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried. Under the mask you can first spray the interior color, so that the cockpit frame is not in the camouflage color on the inside.
It is an accessory for a plastic model, not a kit. The model itself and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
