The set of the SPACE line from the Czech manufacturer Eduard is intended for a detailed rendering of the cockpit of a Yak-9D model in 1:48 scale. Unlike a classic decal with a flat print, these decals carry relief, so the instrument panel and the side panels gain a three-dimensional look without the need to paint small features laboriously with a brush. The set is an accessory; the plastic kit and paints are not included in the package.
The Yak-9 was among the most numerous Soviet fighters of the Second World War. The Yak-9D version was the long-range variant with an increased fuel supply, which allowed longer escort and patrol flights. The structure combined a metal truss fuselage with wooden parts of the airframe, which made production easier in the conditions of a wartime economy. The machine was known for good flying qualities at low and medium altitudes, where most of the fighting on the Eastern Front took place.
Three-dimensional decals are applied onto a smooth, cleanly painted and dry base - unevenness or a coarse texture of the paint will show through under the decal. Carry out the application according to the instructions enclosed with the set; the procedure for three-dimensional decals differs from that for an ordinary wet decal. Do not use a decal softener or setting solution at all, not even diluted - they would damage the printed layer and the relief. Work with smooth-jawed tweezers and place the pieces at the first attempt, as repeated moving does the relief no good. Finish the cockpit before you close the fuselage up and fit the canopy.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model on its own. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
