1:48 Zimmerit for Elefant

Tamiya Zimmerit for the Elefant (1:48)

A detailing accessory from Tamiya in 1:48 scale in the form of a Zimmerit film. It is not a vehicle model but a separate treatment with which you easily give a finished model the look of the Zimmerit anti-magnetic layer. The film takes the place of laborious hand-texturing with putty.

The real subject

Zimmerit was a paste-like compound applied during the Second World War to the surfaces of German armored vehicles so that magnetic charges could not be attached to the armor. It formed a characteristic ridged texture. The Elefant was a heavy German tank destroyer with massive armor and a long antitank gun.

Building and painting tips

Trim the film to the shape of the parts, lay it on the surface of the model and fix it in place as instructed. Once it is in place, paint the whole thing together with the rest of the model and bring out the texture with shading, washes and drybrushing for convincing wear.

Who it is for

• For builders of German armored vehicles in 1:48 scale.
• For modelers who want Zimmerit without laborious puttying.
• The tank destroyer model itself is not included in the package.
